There rumors around now that Google is going to make their own social networking site called Google Me. It is rumored to be a Facebook killer. But what is a Facebook killer. There have not been any social networks that have tried to go face to face with Facebook, or if there was they never got popular in the slightest. So what do you need to make a Facebook killer?
The number one thing Google needs to compete with Facebook is users. If no one uses Google Me then it’s all over. Sure at first people will use it, people like me who try basically anything new. Google has to come out with something that can compel people to come back to the site and something that can make early adopters tell their friends about it and get them to make an account too. Once there is a compelling reason to switch and more and more people start joining the site people will have less and less of a reason to switch back and forth form Facebook to Google Me.
The other thing Google Me will need to have is an Intuitive and pretty site. If people can’t use the site or if it’s bad on the eyes people will not go back to site and the network effect will not happen. This will kill it and I think it just might be the hardest thing for them to overcome as well. Google is made up of engineers they need to have some designers and usability people on the team so that Google Me has chance agents Facebook.
I think that Google is in the best place to fight agents Facebook, mostly because they have the money just sitting in the bank so it’s not like Google is going to go bankrupted by competing agents Facebook. Gizmodo reported that Google might be rolling out Google Me soon. I have sent an e-mail to Google asking about this and the best I got was a no comment. If it is true then it might not be long until we know what Google Me will be like or what the Official name for the site will be.
